You may have missed it in the holiday bustle, but on December 23 President Biden announced his nominee to replace D.C. Circuit Judge David Tatel, who will be taking senior status.
The nominee, U.S. District Judge J. Michelle Childs, has served on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina since 2010. Before that, she served as a trial judge on the South Carolina Circuit Court (2006-10), as a commissioner on the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission (2002-06), and as the Deputy Director of the Division of Labor at the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (2000-02).
Childs launched her career as an employment-law specialist at Nexsen Pruet, LLC in Columbia, South Carolina. She holds an L.L.M. from Duke University School of Law, a J.D. and M.A. from the University of South Carolina, and a B.A. from the University of South Florida.
